Midnight Mischief by Jordan Rakei & Tom Misch |
Aliexpress has a plethora of makeup options available. I know Aliexpress makeup gets a bad rap and many people are wary for so many reasons. I get it. This is not a post trying to convince you differently. The makeup products I have been buying are not imitations or knock offs (trying to look or claim to be a higher-end brand) and given the fact that many higher-end/indie companies use Chinese manufactures to create their products, I'm pretty comfortable that my face won't fall off but, in case it does *gulps* rest assured, I'll let you know.
Cons of buying makeup on Aliexpress
- The delivery process is extremely long 20-40 days is the average guideline
- Companies sometimes take a really long time to ship a product
- Companies sometimes don't even bother sending the product *SCAM* and might try to increase the shipment time or close your refund claim by lying to you and saying they sent it
- Depending on what you buy it can be damaged in the mail (leaks/breaks)
- Colours can be really different from the pictures shown online
- Certain products can smell very chemical or not what expected
- Since everything is online (and in China) you can't test it or even see how it looks in a store
- Some stores ship products separately so it drags out your order further and they might not send one so you have to be watchful of what you buy - you can easily forget what you purchased and if the buyers' warranty might be running out (the time you can make a refund claim for an undelivered order)
- The prices fluctuate with exaggerative starting prices
- Sometimes a company closes down and the item you liked is no longer available
- The ingredients are not usually in your countries language (unless you're Chinese - but you can convert it on google picture translator)
Pros of buying makeup on Aliexpress
- There are a ton of makeup options (stuff in general)
- The makeup/products are extremely inexpensive
- You can find some really great unique shades and formulas
- Using the app can give you certain perks and offers which can lower the inexpensive price even further down (!)
- You can buy items worldwide
- Many people on Aliexpress and on the internet show pictures and do reviews so you can see and hear how the products perform
- Many items have free-shipping so you could make one purchase and not even have to pay to ship the product (but you'll need to check depending on the quantity you order sometimes shipping gets added)
- You can use a picture of something and find it on the website or at least something similar to purchase (great if you want to compare prices as well)
Gella' Dyeing Liquid Lip
First of all the packaging is stunning, it reminds me of the colour shifts in opal but, not just any opal - I'm talking about Australian and Ethiopian Welo Opals that have of late set my little world ablaze. Who knew there was so much to Opals (?). I've been enjoying watching Black Opal Direct & Pulitzer Opal channels and not only are they entertaining but, they're really informative too.
... Anyway ... below are the promotional pictures of the lip gloss.
#13 & #04 |
The description of the lip gloss is as follows "Shimmer Moisturizer Lip Gloss Temperature Change Color Liquid Lipstick Lips Plumper Oil Long Lasting Makeup Lipgloss" ... I often ignore most of what's said due to poor English translation (which is 10,000 times better than my Chinese so I'm not one to talk - plus my English grammar isn't great so yeah). I worked out that this is a gloss from the picture and that it could have some plumping effects and colour change (honestly didn't even notice that when I purchased it). Let's see how true it lives up to its description.
Nice To Meet You
#13 nice to meet you |
Nice to Meet You (aw sweet name) actually looks like how I expected, it's completely mislabelled though - on the tube its called "full cover concealer" but it's not a concealer (on the product page the company does show the packaging "update" in the photos reel).
One of the main reasons I wanted to try this lip gloss specifically was the wand. It's super cool looking and I've never seen one like it. I read in the reviews that although it's pretty, the wand wasn't soft and cushiony so, I was surprised to get to know that reality for myself. Don't worry it's not hard or scratchy but it's not the spongey wands that we've become accustomed to its just plastic.
#13 Nice To Meet You |
Shade 13 is a clear smooth non-sticky gloss with very sparse superfine blue shimmers that are gorgeous but hardly noticeable unless they catch the light. It has a mild sweet fruity scent that is pleasant and inoffensive. This doesn't "plump" my lips or change their colour in any way and there's no burn/sting. This is just a nice and simple shiny lip gloss with a unique bluish fine sparse shimmer. Do I like it? Yes. I can see myself easily using this day in and day out. It's not too shiny and has a medium weight feel (not too light or too heavy).
Passion
The shade 04 is a deep blackened purple with multi-dimensional holographic glitters. This lip gloss again doesn't "plump" my lips and there's no burn/tingle. Yet, this shade does tint my lips to a bright berry-toned acidic pink (and it stains). The glitter is gritty (I've felt worse) but it's bearable - I can feel it on my lips but, there are more glitter tones than shade 13, and it still has that brilliant bright blue shimmer. The wand isn't unique but at least it's soft. Passion smells like KA black grape soda which is sweet and fruity.
#04 Passion |
Overall, 04 is a pretty shade that will suit a multitude of skin tones. On my lips/dark skin the colour is the typical bright pink that often occurs when I use "lip changing products" that are meant to turn lips pink. So, the shade passion does dye my lips.
How did it live up to the description? Well, they're definitely not "lip plumpers" in the traditional sense (no tinge/sensation) but they are shiny which generally causes lips to look plumper. There's no temperature change but 04 does tint the lips.
Anything unique about it? The blue fine shimmers are really beautiful (check out #13 close up).
Price: I paid £2.27 for each lip gloss with free shipping - in Aliexpress terms, this is kinda pricey but, I really wanted to try the formula and I'm glad I did.
